June Kenney


June M. Kenney, 90, of Norwich passed away early Wednesday morning, November 15, 2017, at the Chenango Memorial Hospital after a long courageous battle with cancer.
June was born June 27, 1927 in Rochester, NY the daughter of Lester and Evelyn (Lewis) Meagher. On July 14, 1951, in Cortland, she married William N. Kenney, Sr. who passed away November 2, 2002.
June graduated from Monroe High School of Rochester in 1945 and from the Genesee Hospital School of Nursing in 1948 as a registered nurse. In addition to the Genesee Hospital, at various, times she was employed either as a full time or part time staff nurse at Cortland County Hospital, St. Francis Hospital of Olean, Staten Island Hospital and U.S.P.H.S. Hospital both of Staten Island, Middlesex Hospital of New Brunswick, NJ and Chenango Memorial Hospital of Norwich. In her last position, when physical disabilities forced her to cease work, she was an on-call- special medication nurse for the BOCES Western Educational Center of Norwich.
June was avidly interested in all forms of arts and crafts. She was one of the founders and secretary of the Chenango Wood carvers as well as a member of the Norwich Fine Arts Guild and the Chenango County Council of the Arts.
June is survived by her two daughters ; Eileen F. Kenney of Connelly Springs, NC and Kathleen Jason of Norwich, her son William (Jamie Taylor) Kenney Jr. of Wallkill, NY, step granddaughter Jackie Harbison and grandson William W. Kenney also of Wallkill, NY,. Also surviving her sister Ruth Tracey of Churchville, NY, a sister-in-law Nancy (David) Meagher of Rochester along with many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and a big part of her life is her feline companion, Baby.
June was predeceased by her parents, her husband William Kenney, Sr., son-in-law Keith Jason, brothers David and Robert Meagher, brother-in-law Howard Tracey and sister-in-law Jeannette Meagher.
Memorial services for June will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.
June’s family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Chenango County, 21 Hayes St., Norwich, NY or to a charity of one’s choice.
