Reland Smith


Reland Smith, 82, of South Plymouth passed away at his home on Wednesday afternoon, November 14, 2017.
Reland was born on October 4, 1935 in East Pharsalia the son of Harry and Wanda (Bauder) Smith. Following his graduation he entered the United States Army serving his country during the Korean War. In 1959 he married Jean Belden and soon after they purchased a dairy farm in South Plymouth that continues to be operated today. He also had previously served as Highway Superintendent for the Town of Plymouth.
Reland is survived by his wife of 58 years Jean Smith of South Plymouth, son Jeffrey (Deanna) Smith of South Plymouth and his daughters Lisa (Phillip) Proskine of Sherburne, Christine (Michael) Portelli of Norwich and Marie (Dr. Peter) Ward of Norwich. Reland is also survived by his five siblings Melva (Robert) Bolduc of FL, Betty (Ronald) Palmer of South Plymouth, Sylva (Eugene) Rainbow of South Plymouth, James (Beverly) Smith of Plymouth and Melody (Gary) Giles of England. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Reland will be held on Saturday at 10:00 am from St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church. The Rev. Ralph A. Bove, Pastor, will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.
Arrangements are with the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home.
