Janet Bishop

SMYRNA – Janet G. Bishop, 79, most recently of Smyrna, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009 in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Born in Johnson City in September of 1930, Janet was the daughter of Clifton and Gertrude Hathaway Corby. While growing up in the Binghamton/Johnson City area, she attended the local schools. Following her marriage, Janet and her family lived in several different locales, finally settling for a time in the Plymouth/Pharsalia area, where she raised her family. Though she worked out of the home for a time as a private home caregiver, Janet was basically a stay-at-home mom who was devoted to her family and was known for her good sense of humor.
Janet is survived by her children and their spouses: Charles and Gwen Bishop of Smith Creek, Mich., David and Dolores Bishop of Sherburne, Arthur and Sue Bishop of Plymouth, Linda and Bob Creller of Little Meadows, Pa., Gloria and William Collar of Norwich, Bonnie and Elwin Wilcox of Guilford, and Bob and Tammy Bishop of Smyrna. Also surviving are Janet’s brother and sisters, Gordon Corby of Texas, Barbara Millard of Pennsylvania and Dorothy Kocik of Binghamton; 26 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Janet was predeceased by her son, Terry, earlier in 2009; and by her brothers and sister, Clifton Corby Jr., Richard Corby and Laura Walters.
Funeral services for Janet will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery of Hamilton. Friends are invited to call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m.
