Leland J. Hackett, Jr.


Leland J. Hackett, Jr., 76, of Plymouth passed away on Monday October 23, at his home. He was born in Oxford on June 19, 1941 to the late Thelma and Leland J Hackett, Sr. Leland was a lifelong resident of the Norwich area, working in various positions at Norwich Knitting Mill, Norwich Shoe and eventually spending 30 years at Victory Markets as a warehouseman. He enjoyed working with his hands, repairing household items and wooden creations. He was also known as an avid Pitch player, often playing with his co-workers during their lunch break. After retirement, Leland volunteered his time with Chenango County RSVP, delivering meals on wheels and working in the food pantry at the Lutheran Church. Leland was predeceased by his wife, Mary in 2007; his brother, Neil Hackett; and his sisters, Dorothy Wood, Jean Mayne, Patricia Place, and Mary Gaffney. Survivors include his sons and daughters in law, Terry and Wendy Hackett, Alan and Missy Hackett, Joseph and Gladys Hackett, and Craig and Melanie Hackett; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; his brother, Joseph Hackett; and his sister, Ruth Doherty; along with many nieces and nephews. A graveside service for Leland will take place at 2:30 pm on Friday, October 27, at Mt. Hope Cemetery 5697 St. Hwy. 12, Norwich. In lieu of flowers, donations in Leland’s memory may be made to Chenango County RSVP, 44 W. Main St. Norwich, NY 13815. Arrangements have been entrusted to R.J. Fahy Funeral Home 116 N. Broad St. Norwich.
