Douglas Jones


Douglas W. Jones, Sr., 74, of 489 Pheasant Run, Canastota, passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2017, at his home, after a lengthy illness.
He was born on December 22, 1942, in Norwich, the son of the late Chester and Marie (Diamond) Jones.
Doug lived in Norwich most of his life, and was a 1961 graduate of South New Berlin High School. He has lived in Canastota since 2010.
He worked at the Victory Markets Warehouse in Norwich for 32 years, until it closed. He later worked at Hayes Office Products in Norwich for 8 years, retiring in 2005.
Doug enjoyed reading, collecting model John Deere tractors, mechanical tinkering, working on puzzles in the winter, and spending time with his family.
He married Donna L. Nichols on December 8, 1990, in South New Berlin.
Surviving besides his wife, Donna, are: four sons and two daughters-in-law, Douglas, Jr. and Diana Jones of Lakeland, FL, Kevin and Teresa Jones of Chesapeake, VA, Jeffrey Jones of Norwich, and Theodore “Ted” Jones (Crystal) of Oneida; one daughter, Jessica Belk (Joe Correia) of Canastota; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Elizabeth and Daniel Spencer of Piney Flats, TN, and Elaine and Kitt Amaritnant of Pompey; nine grandchildren; one great granddaughter; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Doug was predeceased by a sister, Donna Carhart.
At Doug’s request there will be no calling hours or funeral service. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Norwich. Arrangements are under the supervision of the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota, NY 13032. In his memory, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 7, E. Syracuse, NY 13057.
