Martha L. Rood


Martha L. Rood, 95, of Oxford, NY passed away on October 9, 2017. Martha was born in Pittsfield WI, daughter of the late Josef and Fridolina Weishaupt who imigrated from Switzerland. Martha was predeceased by her parents, 7 brothers and sisters, her husband of 75 years, Robert Rood and her son Stanley Rood.
Martha is survived by 2 sons; Gene, with his wife, Cathy & Gary, with his wife, Donnalee. She is also survived by a daughter, Susan Rood Bosworth, and her husband Rodney along with 5 grandchildren; Vickie Rood Cramer, Jason Rood, Christoper Rood, Jeremy Rood and Shelley Bosworth Colburn. Martha is also survived by 10 loving great grandchildren.
A talented seamstress and homemaker, Martha used her skills working at several jobs. She worked in the dining room at the NYS Veterans’ Home in Oxford and finally the caftereria at Oxford Academy and Central Schools. She was well known by the students and family alike for her wonderful molasses and half moon cookies. Martha used her sewing skills to make and altar clothing for many area people as well as clothes for her family. When her daughter was in cheerleading, she made their cheerleading outfits. Above all Martha and her husband, Bob, loved to dance. They attended local square dances along with ballroom dance lessons with her brother, Walt Weishaupt, and his wife, Peg.
Friends and family may call at the Behe Funeral Home 21 Main Street, Oxford, NY 13830 on Friday, October 20, 2017 from 6:00 PM -7:00 PM. The Altar Rosary Society will recite the Rosary at 6:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at 11:00AM at St. Joseph’s RC Church of Oxford with Father Paul Machira officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
