MARIETTA R. LANFAIR
Marietta R. Lanfair, 100, a 50 year resident of Norwich passed away Thursday evening, October 12, 2017, at the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Marietta was born on February 27, 1917 in Afton the daughter of Rexford and Mira (Lum) Silvey. At the early age of 6 she moved with her family to Yale Road and attended the Bainbridge-Guilford school. On August 23, 1933 in Guilford she married Lynn Lanfair who passed away in 1965. Soon thereafter she and her husband began raising their family.
Marietta was a hard worker all of her life and family always came first. In addition to raising her family and working on the farm she also had worked over the years for Berglas Manufacturing, the Norwich Shoe Co. and lastly worked Chenango Memorial Hospital in the Housekeeping Dept. from which she retired in 1982.
Marietta is survived by her children; Elsie Voorhis of Rome, Glenn Lanfair of Norwich, Arthur (Nancy) Lanfair of Norwich, Melvin (Linda) Lanfair of Micanopy, FL, Robert (Sharon ) Lanfair and Raymond (Gail) Lanfair of Norwich. Also surviving are many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren along with nieces, nephews, cousins and sister-in-law Ruth Lanfair.
Besides her husband Lynn, Marietta was predeceased by her son Fred Lanfair, sister’s Stella Miller and Edna Simpson, brother’s Edwin, Frank and Charles Silvey and daughter-in-laws Ruth and Shirley Lanfair.
A funeral service for Marietta will be held on Friday, October 20, at 2:00 pm from the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home. Pastor Vince Williams of the Freedom Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will follow in the Riverside Cemetery of South New Berlin.
Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home on Friday from 1-2 pm.
