Mary L. White

Mary L. White, 89, recently of Cortland and formerly of German, passed away on Sunday, September 24, 2017, at the Cortland Regional Medical Center.
Mary was born in Norwich on August 24, 1928, a daughter of the late Carl and Wieronika Lacinski. Mary lost her parents at an early age and was lovingly taken in by the late John and Katherine Turner of Norwich. Mary graduated from Norwich High School and was employed by Bennett Ireland. She married her husband, Franklin J. White, on October 27, 1956. She worked with her husband on their dairy farm in German for most of her adult life, retiring in 1990. After retiring, she and her husband resided in Florida during the winters and spent summers in German, NY. She served on the Cincinnatus Central School Board of Education while her daughters attended school and took pride in handing each of them their diplomas at graduation. Mary was an avid reader and enjoyed going to the Cincinnatus and Greene libraries for reading materials. She also loved her vegetable garden. It was always large and abundant with fresh vegetables for freezing and canning. She enjoyed deer hunting with her husband and many friends. The men jokingly acknowledged that Mary was the best shot of them all and harvested the most deer.
Mary is survived by her three daughters, Jeanne (Chick) Cirello of Oxford, Barbara Sobol of Dryden, and Shelby (Jeff McMasters) of Taylor. She also leaves behind a sister-in-law, Ruby White, of Cincinnatus and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Franklin, in December 2011; by her brothers, Joseph and Carl Lacinski; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles White and Ruth and William Happich.
A graveside service will be held at the Westview Cemetery, German, NY, on Friday, October 6, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend George McKeel officiating. A celebration of Mary’s life will be held at Fred’s Inn, Norwich, NY, on Saturday, November 4, 2017, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to Hospice and Palliative Care Services, 11 Kennedy Parkway, Cortland, NY 13045. Arrangements have been entrusted to the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY. To leave a personal message for the family, please visit www.klsharpfuneralhome.com.
