Ruby H. Maltzan


Ruby Melissa Hazard Maltzan, 89, of Campbell Rd., Lebanon passed away Saturday, September 16, 2017 at her home.
She was born August 31, 1928 in the Town of Lebanon, a daughter of Glenn and Hazel C. Alcott Hazard. She was a graduate of Earlville Central School in 1946 and the Central City Business Institute in 1947. On June 11, 1948, Ruby married Robert Maltzan in Lebanon. They moved to Smyrna, NY where they raised their family until moving back to her childhood home in 1985. Robert predeceased her on February 12, 2017. Ruby’s primary work focus was as a homemaker, but she had also worked at the Earlville Paper Box Company, the Madison County Welfare Department and Gaines Dog Food in Sherburne before starting her family. Much later, she worked as a home health aide for Madison County after gaining substantial experience by caring for her own parents. Ruby enjoyed spending time in the Adirondacks at Big Moose Lake at a camp that Bob and her sons built. She enjoyed hunting and fishing with Bob in the early years of their marriage.
Ruby was active in the Lebanon Federated Church where she had become a member at age 16. She was a member of the West Smyrna Baptist Church where she was active in the Sunday School and choir prior to her health issues later in life.
Surviving are her two daughters and two sons; three daughters-in-law; a sister; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, David Alan Maltzan in 1998, and her brother, Robert Hazard in 2013.
Funeral services will be held at Noon on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at the West Smyrna Baptist Church.
Interment will be in the Maltzan Family Cemetery following the service.
Friends are invited to call at the church on Saturday from 11am to Noon prior to the service.
