“On August 21st, the day of the Great Eclipse here in the Pacific Northwest, Lawrence Michael Ault passed away at the age of 70 after a brief illness. Mike, eldest son of Frank Maynard Ault and Norma Jean Rose, both longtime residents of Broadlawns in South Otselic, spent his youth there with siblings John, Franklin, and Jane before leaving to study the Humanities at Miami State. His eventful life in California culminated in a stroke in 1995, leaving him unable to speak. As his sole nephew, son of Jane Ault and Robert Trexler, I enjoyed talking to him and telling him about my goings-on while he listened patiently. I found talking with him to be a fantastically intelligent experience - his career as a writer and editor especially testifies to his skills of articulation. I loved him, my family and our friends loved him, and he will be missed. He is survived by his sister, Jane Ault, and I, Carson A. Trexler, his nephew.”
