Archie Burton Hackett Jr., better known as Burt, 64 of Beaver Meadow, New York passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, August 24, 2017 surrounded by close family following a long and heroic battle with cancer. Burt was born on December 24, 1952, in Norwich New York to Archie and Margaret (Joslyn) Hackett from Preston NY. Burt attended Norwich schools from Kindergarten through 10th grade, he attended South New Berlin through his Junior year and Tampa Bay Tech for part of his Senior Year. He left school during his senior year to enlist in the United States Marine Corp where he successfully completed boot camp as a platoon leader, he then went on to ITR and was stationed in California for training 105 Howitzer school. He was active duty from 1970-1972 and concluded his service in 1976. He worked at Potter’s Texaco Station in South New Berlin, NY, Chenango Memorial Hospital, Norwich, NY in the maintenance department, W.H. Hackett Well Drilling in Hyannis, MA. He then worked for Ford Motor Credit in Florida and later for Victory Markets from 1978-1991 as a line man in the warehouse, a mechanic and a truck driver. He ran various paint crews and worked side jobs as a mechanic around Norwich while building and starting Burt’s Truck Repair and eight years later K5 Truck Parts. Burt met his wife Kari in 1998 there was an immediate connection from the moment they met, they were great friends spending hours at a time on the phone discussing anything and everything. Soon after meeting, Burt and Kari began to date, they fell madly in love with each other almost immediately. They were engaged after four years of dating and married almost 6 years later, on August 16, 2008. As a couple they were inseparable, working together full time at Burt’s Truck Repair and K5 Truck Parts, spending nearly 24 hours a day together each and every day for almost 19 years. Burt and Kari recently celebrated 9 amazing and loving years of marriage. Burt was a hard worker, it was not out of the ordinary for him to work 6-7 days a week and go out and repair trucks on the side of the road all hours of the day and night. Burt was a kind and generous man, always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, he spent a lot of his free time helping his friends and family with any projects they were working on. Even more he was a family man, always making time for his wife, kids and grandkids all of whom meant the world to him. He spent endless hours riding around with his two oldest granddaughters while teaching them how to drive. He was at sporting events, ceremonies, races, family gatherings, school functions. He spent countless hours helping the kids with homework, studying and practicing sports, and he absolutely loved making breakfast for his family and especially his grandkids. Some of Burt’s favorite past times included wrestling while in High School. Water skiing with his cousins Anne, Nancy and Mary while he lived in Florida; racing and repairing stock cars, microds and pulling tractors. Burt had a passion for travel, he loved to take cruises and to see new places. Burt is survived by his loving wife Kari. His children Kara (Andrew) Wehrli of Norwich, NY and Kyle Hackett and his long-time girlfriend Heidi Standish of North Norwich, NY. His grandchildren Kennedy, Kayla, and Andrew Wehrli Jr. of Norwich, NY. Camdyn, Bailey and Kyla Hackett of North Norwich, NY. His Brothers Steve Hackett of Plant City FL, Henry (Theresa) Hackett and Mike (Dana) Hackett of Sweetwater TN. His Beloved aunts Agnes Ritchie of Plant City, FL and Marjorie Johnson of Guilford, NY along with numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Burt was predeceased by his parents, grandparents, numerous aunts and uncles. Burt was well known and very well-liked by everyone he met, he was the most kind, caring, generous person who was always helping someone in need. Burt had an amazing smile and a contagious laugh, his sense of humor was second to none and carried through into his final hours. Burt knew the value of education and spent endless hours helping numerous people to get through High School, College courses and study for any kind of test they may have been preparing for. Calling hours will be held at R.J. Fahy Funeral Home in Norwich, NY on Friday September 8, 2017 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. Burial will be Saturday September 9, 2017 at 10:00 am at the Hillside Cemetery, in Georgetown NY.
