BETTY CLARK MERCURIO
Betty Clark Mercurio passed away on July 20, 2017, at Chenango Memorial Hospital, after a courageous six year battle with colon cancer.Betty was born on May 19, 1938 in Lebanon, NY, the daughter of Raymond and Eleanor (Barker) Clark. She held positions at the former C&U Telephone Company, Norwich-Eaton Pharmaceuticals/P&G, retiring in 1994. In her retirement, Betty continued to work, first at Raymond Corp., and later as a substitute teacher and para-educator in Norwich Elementary Schools. Betty is survived by her husband of 55 years, Samuel Mercurio; her daughter and son in law, Virginia and Kevin Yager; her grandchildren, Eric and Sara Yager; her sister and brother in law, Shirley and William Doren; a special cousin, Judy Zahalka; and several nieces, nephews and cousins as well as her treasured cat, Sheba, one of many stray and feral cats rescued by her and her husband. She was predeceased in 2001 by her son, Steven Mercurio. Over the years, Betty enjoyed gardening, reading and caring for her feline friends. She was especially proud of receiving an Associates in Business degree in 1988, 32 years after graduating high school. A graveside service for Betty will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, July 24, at Willcox Cemetery, 530 County Road 14, Earlville with Pastor David Spiegel officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in Betty’s memory may be made to Pet Street Station, 6159 County Road 32, Norwich, NY 13815. Arrangements have been entrusted to R.J. Fahy Funeral Home, 116 N. Broad St. Norwich.
