Johneen Bowers Loftus

Johneen Bowers Loftus, 67, a lifelong resident of Norwich and well known former employee of Chenango Memorial Hospital, passed away early Tuesday morning, June 20, 2017, at the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Johneen was born on July 17, 1949 in Norwich the daughter of John E. and Helen (Moore) Bowers. She was educated in the Norwich schools and graduated with the Class of 1967. Johneen began her career with the hospital in July of 1967 retiring in October of 2011. Over the years she worked in the Lab as a Medical Technologist and Laboratory Manager. Johneen was a member of the Chenango Memorial Hospital Auxiliary from 2012 thru 2014 and also a member of the Chenango Memorial Hospital Foundation for a period of time.
Johneen was especially proud, rightfully so, of the book she authored “Chenango Memorial Hospital, The 100 year History of a Rural Central New York Hospital”. She spent countless hours gathering and compiling information and working with her good friend Virginia Chaplin to see her book come to fruition. The book is a great tribute to the hospital, it’s founders and staff throughout the years. It is filled with many pictures, facts and stories of the hospital over the years.
In her leisure time Johneen enjoyed cross stitch, reading collecting crystal, traveling to Maine, Cape Cod and Myrtle Beach
On September 8, 1973 in Norwich she married Joseph Loftus.
Johneen is survived by her husband Joe of Norwich, her feline friends Birdie and Reggie, her hospital family and a number of close friends including Linda Chomyszak, Betty Dayton, Sally Stackhouse, Louellen Thiel and Tara Wyna. Several cousins also survive.
A funeral service for Johneen will be held on Friday, June 23, at 1:00 pm from the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. David Spiegel, Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Norwich will officiate. Interment will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home on Friday from 11 am until the time of the service at 1pm.
Please consider memorial contributions to Hospice & Palliative Care of Chenango County, 21 Hayes St., Norwich, NY 13815 or Chenango County SPCA, 6160 County Road 32, Norwich, NY 13815.
Joe would like to especially thank the staff of the hospital for the compassion and care given to both Johneen and himself throughout this difficult time.
