FRANCES H. WALLACE
Frances H. Wallace, 85, a lifelong Norwich resident, passed away Saturday, April 1, 2017, at the Chase Memorial Nursing Home of New Berlin where she has made her home since 2013.
Fran was born in Norwich on July 2, 1931 the daughter of Ralph and Vivian (Franklin) Steward. She attended the Norwich Schools from which she graduated in 1949. While in school she was a member of the NHS Tumbling Team for 4 years and was Secretary - Treasurer of the Girls Athletic Council. She was also a member of the Girl Scouts and the 4H club for many years. Following her graduation she went to work for Zero Lockers from 1949 to 1966. In 1966 she went to work for S.D. Lunt Co., a local brokerage firm, which changed to First Albany Corp. in 1974 from which she retired in 1993.
In 1964 Fran and her husband Jim formed the Norwich Lancerettes, the largest non-school marching group in the area, which was disbanded in 1995. She also loved roller skating, took many trips to Nashville, Branson and the many amusement parks east of the Mississippi River. She also enjoyed Norwich Senior trips, loved working in her flower beds around the house and crocheting.
On September 21, 1951 in Norwich she married James Wallace who passed away February 10, 2000.
Fran is survived by her sisters-in-law Yvonne Steward of Norwich, Nora Steward of NC, Loretta Steward of Binghamton and Charlotte Taylor of NC, her nieces and nephews Garry (Pam) Steward of Norwich, Patricia (John) Henningsen of Binghamton, Linda (David) Young of PA, JoAnne Steward of NC, Michael Steward of NC, Kathy (Tab) Winner of Oxford, Kert (Kathleen) Steward of FL, Kevin (Gail) Steward of Del., Kenneth (Rose) Steward of Norwich, David (Linda) Steward of PA, James (Coreen) Steward of Oneonta, Daniel Steward of FL, Terry (Ginger) Steward of FL, Robert Scott Steward of NC and Tonee Suda.
Besides her husband James, Fran was predeceased by her brothers Ronald, Paul, Kenneth, Ralph and Robert Steward.
A funeral service for Fran will be held on Wednesday, April 12, at 1pm from the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home. Pastor Jen Westervelt of the Canasawacta Valley Free Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in the J.D. Lewis Cemetery of Preston.
