Mary L. Swertfager


Mary L. Swertfager, 97, of Norwich, passed away Thursday morning, March 23, 2017, at the Norwich Rehabilitation & Nursing Center of Norwich.
Mary was born on August 28, 1919 in Norwich the daughter of Joseph and Emma (Kern) Purdy. She attended the Norwich schools and over the years worked for the Norwich Knitting Mill, in sales at the Montgomery Ward Store of Norwich and eventually Champion Products. In her leisure time she enjoyed fishing and hunting with her son Fred and loved to bake which she shared with everyone. She also had a great love for her two canine friends Ginger & Raven.
Mary is survived by her daughter-in-law Joan Swertfager of Oxford, her grandchildren Rebecca Doing and fiancée Leon Manwarren of Sherburne, Robert Swertfager of GA, Charles (Denise) Swertfager also of GA, Tara (Richard) Yanni of Scranton, PA and Lydia (Greg) Evanson of Buckeye, AZ. Also surviving is her great granddaughter Mercedes Doing along with several other great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Mary was predeceased by her husband Frederick J. Swertfager who passed away July 24, 1986, her son Frederick who passed away March 5, 2016, her siblings Bessie, Viola and Harold.
In keeping with Mary’s wishes there will be no calling hours or formal services. Interment will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Arrangements are with the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home.
