Soon after, he entered the United States Air Force where he served his country until his honorable discharge in 1945. Returning home Stan and Magdalene took up permanent residence in Smyrna. Following his retirement and not a man to sit idle, Stan took up employment with Chenango County where he worked at the Chenango County Office building as a general maintenance man from which he retired in 1980. Stan continued to make his home in Oxford until recent years when he moved back to his hometown of Smyrna.
Stan was a quiet man who had a ready smile, pleasing personality and an easy going way. He loved to chat, remember the good ol days and was always ready for a good time or a good meal. He was recently honored as an 80 year member of the Smyrna Fire Dept. and was also a lifelong member of the Smyrna United Methodist Church. Stan will be missed by many of his lifelong friends in Smyrna and the surrounding area who he considered his family.
