William M. Currie


William M. Currie, 93, a lifelong resident of Norwich, passed away early Sunday morning, March 5, 2017, at the Basset Hospital of Cooperstown.
Bill was born on December 11, 1923 in Norwich the son of Ezra and Anne (Davern) Currie. He grew up in Norwich where he attended and graduated from the Norwich High School. A veteran of the United States Army, Bill served his country during WWII.
Bill’s was a 40 year employee of the United States Postal Service in Norwich. He worked as a Postal Clerk and was a very familiar face at the local office. His easy going and helpful ways earned him respect and many friends over the years. He was also a faithful member of St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church and attended Mass daily.
On August 19, 1950 in St. Paul’s Church he married Evelyn (Evie) Martin who survives.
Besides his wife Evelyn, Bill is survived by his children ; Michael (Penny) Currie of Norwich, Martin (Claire) Currie of Syracuse, John Currie of Seattle, WA and Lisa (Dennis) Leahy of San Antonio, TX. Also surviving are Bill’s grandchildren Daniel (Kelly) Currie, Sarah (James) Files, Jacasa Currie and Vincent Leahy.
Bill was predeceased by his sister Noreen.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Bill will be held on Monday, March 13, at 11:00 am from St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church. The Rev. Ralph A. Bove, Pastor, will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.
Arrangements are with the R. J. Fahy Funeral Home.
