Howard L. Henneforth


SMYRNA: Howard L. Henneforth, 98 of State Route 80, passed away Monday, February 20, 2017 at the Norwich Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
He was born July 25, 1918 in Wimmers, PA, a son of John Lewis and Frauline Black Henneforth, and received his education in Maplewood, PA schools. Howard proudly served in in the U.S. Army Air Corps. during WWII from 1942-45 where he was an aerial gunner in the Eastern Theater of Operations. He participated in the battles in the Ardennes, Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He received the Purple Heart along with several other medals and citations. In 1950, he married Mildred B. Lamb in Sherburne. She predeceased him in 1990. Howard worked at Proctor & Gamble in Norwich until retiring. He was also a beekeeper, enjoyed gardening and raising small animals. Howard was a true handyman who worked on all his own projects and loved to tinker. He was a ham radio operator and enjoyed collecting sea shells and rocks.
Howard was a member of the West Smyrna Baptist Church.
Surviving are his daughters, Beverly Henneforth of Sherburne and Carol Gulliver of Oakland, CA; two daughters-in-law, June Black and Kittie Black; a son-in-law, Edwin Ubbens; 10 grandchildren and their spouses, Shannon and Herb Harris, Connie and Jeremy Huber, Julie and Peter Black, Jody Black, Karen Black, Kari Maine, Jeremy and Sara Johnson, Sandra Henneforth and Jeff Warren, and Garland Mallette; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his children, Elma Ubbens, Eldon Black, Clement and Marion Black, Merlin and Viola Black, and Wayne Black; two brothers, Leigh Hennaforth and Richard Henneforth.
Memorial Services will be held at a later date and time to be announced.
Interment with military honors will be in West Hill Cemetery, Sherburne at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St, Sherburne.
