Mary E. Day (betty)


Mary died on February 16, 2017 at Arnot Ogden Hospital after a lengthy illness. She fought hard and long. Mary was born May 30, 1934 to Howard Davall and Mildred Allen. She was fondly named “Betty” because of the many family members named Mary. She grew up living on a farm and helping with the many farm chores. Mary graduated from Norwich High School. As a young woman Mary was voted dairy princess. Mary married Eugene C. Day in June of 1952.
Mary was predeceased by her parents, her sister Ruth (Bill) Speh of Earlville, NY, her brother Richard Davall of Bradenton Florida and nephew Scott Nutter.
Mary is survived by hers sisters Norma (Robert) Boice of Baconton, GA, Nancy (Paul) Nutter of Oxford NY, Daughters Nancy Day (Mike) Hargraves, Patricia (Mark) Alger.
Mary’s grandchildren include Jessica (Nathan) Hammond, Mitchell (Megan) Alger, Katherine (Chauncey ) Watches, Daniel Hargraves, Dustin Hargraves, and twins Onisty Brotzman, Olaney Brotzman.
Her Great Grandchildren include Jaedyn Hargraves, Charlotte Hammond, Allison Watches and several nieces and nephews.
Mary worked at several jobs while raising her family in Earlville, NY. She worked at Madison and Chenango County ARC where she was a supervisor and ran the kitchen and supervised clients in the kitchen. She also worked as cook at Garret Smith Infirmary which later became Crouse Community Center where she worked until she retired in 1997.
After Mary retired she moved to Bath, NY to be near her two daughters and grandchildren.
Mary enjoyed planting and tending to her flowers and houseplants. She kept busy taking care of her many pets over the years including her present pets of 3 birds and dog Bandito. She also enjoyed travelling around to her grandchildren’s many school, church and sporting events over the years. She was always very proud of their accomplishments.
Mary will be greatly missed by her family.
Calling hours will be Monday, February 20th from 12:00 – 2:00 pm at Fagan’s Funeral Home, 31 W. Morris St., Bath, NY. Funeral Services will be immediately following at 2:00 pm at the funeral home. Deacon Robert Colomaio officiating. Online condolences may be made at www.fagansfuneralhome.com.
