Lynn I. Shirdon

Lynn I. Shirdon, 90, well known and longtime resident of the Mt. Upton & Rockdale area passed away early Wednesday morning, February 15, 2017, at the home of his son.
Lynn was born in Norwich on September 30, 1926 the son of Spencer & Edith (Post) Shirdon. He grew up in Norwich and attended the one room school house in Headys Corners and graduated from the Norwich High School. Following his education, Lynn entered the United States Army serving his country during WWII. Returning home he worked for a brief period of time for Smith Ford and Childs Service Station. On May 24, 1958 in Norwich he married Eunice Roth who passed away December 26, 2008. Following his marriage Lynn and his wife made their home in the Rockdale area. Together they owned and operated Shirdon’s Service Station and Garage which they ran for over 40 years as well as a 24 hr. towing service. At the same time Lynn was also employed for 57 ½ years by the Scintilla and it’s successors as a machine repairman. He was also a member of the Norwich American Legion Post #189 and an avid bowler. Lynn was also cited by the U.S. Dept. of Commerce for completing 30 years of service as a Cooperative Weather Observer for the National Weather Service for the Rockdale/Mt. Upton area.
It goes without saying that Lynn was a hard worker. He was always there for his family and anyone who needed a helping hand despite his heavy work load. Somehow, he still found time to enjoy life by hunting, fishing and woodworking. He was also a train and car enthusiast.
