Rita I. Boyer


Rita I. Boyer, 90, of Howard Street, passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at the Norwich Rehabilitation and Nursing Center with family by her side.
Born in Quebec, Canada, on February 3, 1927, Rita was the daughter of the late Joseph and Amanda (Duquette) Barriere. She spent her early years in Canada where she attended school and, in 1947, moved to the United States. She settled in Oxford before relocating to Norwich. Rita was employed as a bank teller for NBT Bank for 33 years. She was a 4H leader for several years and was a proud den mother and Scout Leader when her children were growing up. Rita was a member and former officer of the Ladies of the Elks 1222, and was a member of the Lioness for the Norwich Lions Club. Rita was known locally for her sewing and altering talents.
She was a member of the Church of St. Paul, including being an active member of both the Rosary and Altar Societies.
On May 11, 1946, Rita married Fabio “Pat” Boyer, who predeceased her on July 14, 2012.
Rita is survived by her daughter, Lorraine Boyer, of Liverpool; two sons, Michael Boyer and his wife, Linda, of Kingston, NY, and Donald Boyer and his wife, Mary, of Rochester; a daughter-in-law, Pam Boyer, of Norwich; six grandchildren, Jim Boyer, Bryan (Ailisa) Boyer, Brenda (Cesar) Rosado, Kevin Boyer (Jason Kurtz), Kara (John) Tallardy, and Katie (Kenn) Lo Bianco; seven great-grandchildren, Alex and John Rosado, Bodie, Finn and Luka Tallardy, and Lyla and Fiona Boyer; one sister, Helena Menard, of Oxford; and several nieces and nephews. Rita was predeceased by her son, Re-al Boyer, and her several other siblings.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Rita will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at the Church of St. Paul where the Rev. Ralph A. Bove, pastor, will officiate. Burial will occur in the spring of 2017 at St. Paul’s Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Rita may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Chenango County, 21 Hayes Street, Norwich, NY 13815.
