Robert Maltzan


LEBANON: Robert Maltzan, 89, of Campbell Rd., passed away Sunday, February 12, 2017 at Community Memorial Hospital in Hamilton.
He was born March 11, 1927 in Sherburne, a son of Ferdinand and Emilie Schmidt Maltzan. He received his early education in Sherburne Central School and was a graduate of Hudson Valley Community College in 1948. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during WWII. On June 11, 1948, Robert married Ruby Hazard in Lebanon. He was the Code Enforcement Officer for the Village of Hamilton until retiring in 1989. Previously, he had been a field superintendent for Haynor Hoyt in Syracuse; worked in construction for Murray Walter of Johnson City; was field superintendent for Wm. Bouley in Auburn and for Roger & McCay Construction in NYC. He enjoyed several hobbies including hunting, woodworking, and carpentry, as well as being an avid reader.
Bob was a member of the West Smyrna Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon for many years. He was also a former member of the Madison County Parks Commission.
Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Ruby; two daughters, two sons and three daughters-in-law; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, David Alan Maltzan in 1998; his brothers, Emil, August, Edward and Henry Maltzan; and sisters, Julia Postiglion, Alma Jaquay, Anna Fairchild, Olga Densmore, Martha Wedge Fairchild and Adeline Maltzan.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm Sunday, February 19, 2017 from the West Smyrna Baptist Church, Rt. 80 W., Smyrna, NY.
Interment will be private in the Maltzan Family Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call at the church on Sunday from 1-2pm prior to the service.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the Memorial Fund for Ferdinand and Emilie Maltzan Scholarship, c/o Central NY Community Foundations (CNYCF), 431 E. Fayette St., Suite 100, Syracuse, NY 13202. This scholarship is awarded each year at Sherburne-Earlville Central School graduation to the top ten students with outstanding scholastic achievement.
