Robert H. Page, 82, of New Berlin and former City of Norwich Highway Superintendent, passed away Monday, February 6, 2017, in the Bassett Hospital of Cooperstown.
Bob was born in Guilford on May 21, 1934 the son of Ralph & Myrtle (Fairchild) Page. He grew up in the Guilford area where he attended the local school. At the age of 19 entered the United States Army serving his country during the Korean Conflict from 1953 until his honorable discharge in 1956. He returned home from the military to help his parents on the family farm.
At heart Bob was a true farmer, but, eventually gained employment with the Village of Oxford Highway Department where he worked as foreman before gaining employment with the City of Norwich in April of 1975. He remained with the City of Norwich working his way to Highway Superintendent until his retirement on March 31, 1986. Not really being ready for retirement and wanting to put his talents on the backhoe to work, Bob went to work for Cooks Construction in Broome County and subsequently with Squirrel Hill Construction in Greene.
Bob was an outdoors type of guy who enjoyed hunting, fishing and his guns. He was a man of few words but you never had to guess where you stood. He loved children and was a bit of a prankster
Bob is survived by his children; Robert Page Jr. & wife Cindy of Mt. Upton, Tresa Bouren & husband Russ of NM, Cindi Luyster & husband Tracy of Kopperl, TX, Kenneth Page & wife Debbie of Bloomfield, NM, Helen Shoemaker & husband Jeff of Berkshire and Donnie Page & wife Tricha of New Berlin. Also surviving are his siblings MaryAnn Downey of FL, Donald Page & wife Lou of Oxford, 22 grandchildren, severalgreat grandchildren, nieces, nephews and the mothers of his children Nancy Cole and Sandra Page.
Bob was predeceased by his son James, a grandson Zachary, his sisters Helen & Pauline and brother Virgil.
A funeral service for Bob will be held on Tuesday evening at 7 pm from the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home. Interment will be at a later date in the Gospel Hill Cemetery of Guilford.
Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5-7 pm.
