FRANCES K. DUNCAN
Frances K. Duncan, 97, passed away on February 2, 2017. She was born in Norwich, N.Y. on July 6, 1919, the daughter of Salvatore and Francesca (Fraumeni) D’Angelo. She attended Norwich High School and earned her registered nursing diploma at Wilson Memorial School of Nursing. She went on to earn her Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Sciences from New York Empire State College. She worked as an RN at Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich, N.Y., and also in Norwich as a nurse for Dr. Martin Jacobi. She was a nurse supervisor at Delhi Hospital in Delhi, N.Y. for many years. In 1968, Fran was a founding professor of the Nursing program at State University of New York College at Delhi and taught in the program until her retirement in 1985. After retirement, Fran remained active in the nursing field by volunteering at hospitals in Oneonta and Norwich N.Y. In 1951 Fran married George Duncan, who died in 1991. She is survived by her son, James Duncan and daughter-in-law Barbara Duncan; her daughter, Mary Duncan and son-in-law Larry Roberts; and her granddaughters, Mary Alyce Duncan and Katherine E. Roberts. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Mary D’Angelo, and her many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. Fran enjoyed playing cards, following current events and traveling. She was an avid reader. More than anything, she loved spending time with her family and friends. Fran was a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Norwich, N.Y., and St. Mary Catholic Church in Henrico, Va. The family wishes to thank the staff and residents of St. Mary’s Woods and Our Lady of Hope for their love and friendship over the years. A Mass for Fran will be held on Tuesday, February 7, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 9505 Gayton Road, Richmond, Va. Contributions in memory of Fran may be made to the College Foundation at Delhi in care of the George Duncan Memorial Endowment, SUNY Delhi, 454 Delhi Drive, Delhi N.Y. 13753.
