Alta Louise (ellis) Collins


Alta Louise (Ellis) Collins, 90, of State Highway 12, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at UHS/Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich.
She was born February 22, 1926 in Sherrill, NY, a daughter of Harold and Alice Snyder Ellis and received her education in Sherburne schools. On November 6, 1954, Alta married John W. Collins in Sherburne. Alta had worked at several area firms including the Utica Knitting Mill in Sherburne, Norwich Pharmaceutical Co., the Sherburne school cafeteria, Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich and then Hercules (Unison) in Norwich until retiring. She was a communicant of St. Malachy’s Church in Sherburne.
Surviving are her husband of 62 years, John; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Janet Collins of Sherburne; son-in-law, Steve Jenne of Sherburne; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Carol and Pete St. Peter of Sherburne; Dorothy Cunningham of Norwich; a brother, Ken Ellis of Clark Mills; four grandchildren, Danyel (Brody) O’Farrell, Jay Collins, Travis Collins and his companion, Samantha, Cody (Lauren) Collins; and three great-grandchildren, Brayden, Aislyn and Lorelai. She was predeceased by a daughter, Karin Jenne in 2011; a son, Paul J. Collins in 2014; sisters, Dawn Davis and Beverly Ellis; and brothers, Cliff and Rick Borchardt.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Noon on Saturday, January 28, 2017 from St. Malachy’s Church, East State St., Sherburne.
Spring interment will be in the Sherburne Quarter Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne on Saturday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
