Dorothy Lucille Clark Craine

SHERBURNE – Dorothy Lucille Clark Craine left the physical world on Thursday, January 19, 2017.
Dorothy was born on October 4, 1920 at home in Sherburne, NY, the first daughter of Earl Burt and Grace Condon Clark. She grew up on the family farm in North Norwich, graduating from Norwich High School, and then from Syracuse University via Miami (Ohio) University. Dorothy worked at Bristol Labs until she married William Dart Craine in 1947. Bill predeceased her in July 2005.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Bill (Jacki), Ed (Judy), and David; six grandchildren, Vita, Karina, Katie, Abby, Cassie and Bill; and six great-grandchildren. Dorothy was a devoted professional homemaker as well as helping Bill at Craine & Mirabito Insurance. In 1983, Dorothy and Bill relocated to Clearwater Beach, Florida. Dorothy’s sister, Marion, and her family reside in the Clearwater area. Dorothy was predeceased by her brothers, Donald and Robert.
Dorothy was an eighty year member of the Sherburne United Church of Christ, where she met Bill in Sunday school in the 1920’s. Dorothy enjoyed her garden, was active with Chi Omega, her college sorority, and was a proud member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
There will be no calling hours for Dorothy, and burial at the Sherburne West Hill Cemetery will be private at the convenience of the family.
Donations in Dorothy’s memory may be sent to the American Cancer Society. Early detection and capable surgeons allowed Dorothy to survive ovarian cancer in 1967.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne.
