Dr. Lorain (larry) Schultes


COLUMBUS, INDIANA – Dr. Lorain (Larry) Schultes, 80, of Columbus, Indiana passed from this life at the Columbus Regional Emergency Room on Friday, December 9, 2016. Larry was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, companion and friend of many.
He was a member of the Columbus Moose Lodge, Eagles Lodge, Elks Lodge, American Legion, American Society of Microbiologists and the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard. He was a U.S. Army Reserve Corps of Engineers Veteran. He was a graduate of Mount Upton Central School Class of 1954. Larry graduated from Cornell University and North Carolina State University with a Doctorate in Microbiology. Larry was a self-employed consultant in Microbiology and Bacteriology.
Larry was born July 15, 1936 in Bainbridge, NY to Dwight and Cynthia (Medbury) Schultes. Survivors include his children: Stan (Laurie) Schultes of Bradenton, Florida, Eve (Eric) Ridge of Bloomington, Indiana, Joel (Evelyn) Schultes of Corning, NY, and Katrina (Carl Cower) Schultes of Logan, Ohio. Seven grandchildren: Tyler, Erik, Keyan, Carole (Tammaro), Noah, Hope and Benjamin.His companion, Shirley Suddeth of Columbus, Indiana. Brothers Rodney (Nancy) Schultes of Mount Upton, NY and Harley (Donna) Schultes of Maryland, NY, a sister Mary Shadigian of Indianapolis, Indiana and a daughter-in-law Sabrina Schultes-Southards of Ivanhoe, North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wives Carol Jean Schultes and Carol Jean Acton Schultes, a companion Beatrice Allen and son Kurt Schultes.
A celebration of life was held December 15, 2016 in Columbus, Indiana.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contibutions be made to Moose International Inc.
