Margaret Lee Mcgowan Doolittle


Margaret Lee McGowan Doolittle of Oxford, passed away on December 7, 2016 after 100 years spent with family and friends. Margaret was born on August 13, 1916 in Brackney, PA. At age 12 the family moved to Greene, NY. On February 15, 1937, she married Bernard George McGowan who predeceased her on January 15, 1960. She married Andy Doolittle February 22, 1964 who predeceased her on September 21, 1971. Margaret was also predeceased by her parents Curtis and Virgil Lee, her sons Richard McGowan and Perry McGowan, her brother Edward Gilbert McGowan, her sisters Martha Gage, Helen Stone, Hilda Stone, Cora Beach, Ruth Stringham, Virginia McGowan, Marion Hayes, and Anna Lee.
Surviving Margaret is her son Elmer McGowan, her grandchildren, Tammy, Doug, Chad, Margo, Ben, Jeff and Amy. Margaret is also survived by many loving great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Margaret, known by most as Gram, was involved with farming for most of her life. She was a cook at the Corner Restaurant in Greene, NY for over 30 years. Margaret could always be found cooking for anyone that came through her door. She loved to gather the entire family and prepare a feast, share stories around the table, and have a good laugh. All were welcome and no one left hungry. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends.
Friends and family may call at the Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main St., Oxford, NY on Saturday, December 17, 2016 from noon to 1:00 PM.
