Arie Koerts


GREENE – Arie Koerts, age 85, went to join his loving wife, Sally, on Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, at home.
Arie was born in Voorhout, Holland on Jan. 7, 1924, son to the late Arie and Johanna (Rupke) Koerts. He was also predeceased by infant son, Wesley; and two sisters, Marie Doody and Nell Testa. He is survived by his loving children, Stephen and Ruthie Koerts, James and Charlene Koerts, Paul and Beth Koerts, Katherine and Michael Tampio; nine grandchildren, Justin, James, Arielle, Perry, Diana, Anna, Vincent, Brian and Kevin; three great-grandchildren, Michael, Katelyn and Emma. Arie is also survived by four sisters, Hilda Eckenrode, Johanna Lawton, Adie Stowell, Nanda (Leo) Cook.
Arie immigrated to the United States with his family from Holland at the age of two and lived in New Jersey until coming to the Greene area in 1941. He served his country in the US Army during the occupation of Japan during World War II. On April 17, 1948, he married Sarah (Sally) Page in Zion Episcopal Church, Greene. He began working at The Page Seed Company that same year and retired as Executive Vice President in 2006. He was a member of the Greene Rotary Club and an active member of Zion Episcopal Church.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday at Zion Episcopal Church, Greene, with The Very Rev. Ralph E. Osborne, Rector, officiating. Burial followed in Sylvan Lawn Cemetery, Greene. Friends of the family called Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Zion Episcopal Church.

Arrangements are by the Root Funeral Home, Greene.
