Mrs. Michelle Lee “Micky” Barber, 66, of Cortland Street, Marathon, New York died Sunday, November 27, 2016 at her home, with her family by her side.
Born on November 24, 1950 in Norwich, NY, she was the daughter of Charles William Reihl and Ida Mae Handy Reihl. She was a graduate of Norwich High School, Class of 1968. She had been a resident of Marathon since 1975.
Mrs. Barber worked for the Village of Marathon as Secretary for many years as well as working for the former Peter Pumpkin in Marathon, Shoe Factory in Norwich, and Crescent Corset in Cortland. Her most important job however, was being a mother and homemaker.
In her younger years Micky was an avid bowler. She enjoyed Cross-Stitch and Puzzles. She was known for bicycling around town and her green thumb. She was past president of the Marathon Ladies Auxiliary.
On April 23, 1971 in Norwich, NY, Micky was married to James B. Barber. Together they celebrated over 45 years of marriage.
Micky was predeceased by her mother in February 1998; her father in February 2003; sister, Sandy Howard; and a brother-in-law, Nick Nichols.
Mrs. Barber is survived by her husband, James B. Barber of Marathon, NY; daughter, Kelly Barber of Marathon, NY; son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Nicole Barber of Fort Plain, NY; 2 sisters, Carol Nichols, Cindy Reihl and her companion, Jack; 2 brothers, Richard and Sharon Reihl, Sr., Charles Reihl, Jr.; brother-in-law, Dick Howard; 4 granddaughters, Courtney Leach and fiancé Derick Ledger, Kristen Leach, Scerenia Barber, Ziva Barber; grandson, Asher Barber; great-granddaughter, Brailynn Leach; great-grandson, Kolton Leach; mother-in-law, Jeannette Ingraham; sister-in-law, Joyce and Larry Coyle; brother-in-law, Paul and Dolores Barber; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Mrs. Michelle “Micky” Barber may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1 Penny Lane, Suite 1, Latham, NY 12110.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 1:00pm at The First Baptist Church, 5 Park Street, Marathon, NY 13803 with Tom Boice officiating.
