Vera A. Smith

Vera A. Smith, 91, passed away on Friday, November 25, 2016 at the Chenango Memorial Hospital Residential Health Care Facility in Norwich, NY.
Vera was born November 23, 1925, in Irvona, PA, to Irvin and Loraine Hazelton. She was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Wilbert E. Smith, and a daughter Margaret L. Musso, of Bath, NY.
Vera lived with her family in Irvona until 1962 when they moved to Bath, NY. In Pennsylvania she worked as a phone operator. In Bath she made many friends through her involvement in her church, square dancing, and the Eastern Star. She had a long career as the office manager for the Steuben Rural Electric Cooperative.
Music was a big part of Vera’s life. Playing piano, organ, and other instruments she provided joy to friends and family as well as spiritual inspiration at her church. Her talent was such that if you could hum it, she could play it.
Family and friends will greatly miss Vera. Her grandchildren will forever find all peanut butter cookies and homemade applesauce inferior to their grandmother’s creations. She was kind and gentle to all and treated her son-in-law with the love often reserved for a natural son.
Vera is survived by her daughter Ruth Ann (Robert) Cuffney, of Sherburne, NY; grandchildren Gregory Musso, of Bixby, OK, Rachel Dahmane (Rudy Yastrzemski), of Bath, NY, Jason (Mandy) Musso, of Denver, CO, Bryan (Mary) Musso, of Cohocton, NY, Bridget (Christopher) Day, of Weymouth, MA, and Robert (Tara) Cuffney, of Charlotte, NC; thirteen great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Paul (Mary) Smith, of Westover, PA; numerous nieces and nephews, and her dear friends Shirley Campbell and Lucille Schuchardt-Deserio, of Bath, NY.
In keeping with Vera’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family in Clearfield, PA, beside her beloved husband, Wilbert.
Contributions in Vera’s memory may be made to the Chenango Valley Home, 24 Canasawacta St., Norwich, NY 13815.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Wilson Funeral Home. To leave the family a message of condolence, please visit the funeral home website at: www.wilsonfh.com
