GREENE – Bessie Mae Wright, 100, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009, at NYS Veterans Home, Oxford.
She was born on Feb. 5, 1909, daughter of the late Jason and Bessie Peterson. She was also predeceased by her husband, Leland R. Wright in 1962; and by three brothers. Bessie is survived by her children, Donald and Rae Wright, New Port Richey, Fla., Lois Elliott, Greene, Harold and Shirley Wright, Seffner, FL, Robert and Kathleen Wright, Lamar, SC; grandchildren, Carinne Wolford, Jeanne Norton, Donna Wright, Danne Wright, Kenneth Elliott, Gary Elliott, Deborah Hinman, Douglas Wright, David Wright, Robert Wright, Denise Penner, Neil Wright; 26 great-grandchildren and 22 great-great-grandchildren.
Bessie was a member of Greene Grange #1413, a member of Chenango Valley Rebekah Lodge and a member of Central Baptist Church, Greene. She was employed by Page Seed, Greene Hospital, the Egg Station and at Brisben Rag Factory. She was a housekeeper and cleaner for many years. Bessie loved to knit and crochet for her family and friends.
Funeral and committal services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Root Funeral Home, 23 N. Chenango St., Greene, NY 13778.
Friends of the family may call Thursday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Root Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
