Arthur O. Blackman


Arthur O. Blackman, 84, of Norwich, passed away on November 4, 2016 at his home. He was born on March 11, 1932. He was one of eleven children of the late William S. and Ceta M. Blackman. Arthur was a life-long resident of the Town of Plymouth and attended the Norwich schools. Arthur served his country in the military during the Korean War achieving the rank of corporal. After his military service, he returned to his hometown and spent his career in the construction business becoming a foreman for Husted Concrete. He enjoyed spending time with his family fishing, camping and boating. Arthur was also a fan of NASCAR and classic country music.
Arthur is survived by his children, Andrew Blackman and Pat Clendening; Jeffrey and Barbara Blackman; Linda and Art Gager; and Jason Blackman; his grandchildren Marie Brooks, Justin Gager, William Blackman, Jessica Moore, Genevie Moore, Tanya Chrisbacher and Andrea Jones. He had 11 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his brothers and sisters, Helen Markham; Fred and Bertha Blackman; June Manwarren; Lester Blackman; Grace Franklin; Leslie and Joyce Blackman; his sister in law, Mary Blackman, and his longtime friend Jean Mayne and her children, Scott Mayne; Barbara Cole; and Douglas Mayne. Also many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife Arleeta and two infant sons David and William, his brothers, Leonard and Carl and his sisters, Doris Crandall and Mrytle Horton.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, November 11, at R.J. Fahy Funeral Home, 116 N. Broad St. Norwich with Pastor Brad Keator officiating. A private burial will take place at South Plymouth Cemetery at the family’s convenience.
The family will receive family and friends at the funeral home on Friday from 1 p.m. until the time of service. The family requests that any memorial contributions be made to the Preston Fire Department.
