Russell H. “rusty” Husted


Russell H. “Rusty” Husted, 68, of Norwich, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton.
Born in Cortland, NY on January 23, 1948, Rusty was the son of Russell C. and Isabelle (Ryan) Husted. He attended St. Paul’s School and graduated from Norwich High School with the Class of 1967. He served during the Vietnam War with the U.S. Air Force both in Kansas and overseas in Turkey. Following his service to his country, Rusty joined the work force at the Norwich Pharmacal Company, retiring in 2010.
Rusty was an avid sports fan. Living close to Norwich High School, he attended many school sporting events. He also enjoyed bowling and golf, where he was known for his excellent short game. He was in great demand by various “captain and crew” teams. Rusty was the equipment manager for the Norwich Cyclone Pop Warner team during the 1970’s.
Rusty and his wife, Mary, had a camp on Fourth Lake, near Old Forge. He loved boating, pulling water skiers and visiting places such as Fish Creek, the Adirondacks, Saranac Lake and Eagle Bay. He was a member of the Adirondack 46ers and had climbed twenty-one of the mountains.
On June 26, 1982, in St. Paul’s Church, Rusty married Mary Jackson, who survives. He is also survived by his sons, Scott Burlison, of Sherburne, and Andy Burlison, of Liberty, SC; his grandchildren, Scott Burlison Jr., of Boston, Maggie Burlison, of New York City, Hannah Burlison, of Sherburne, Dillon Burlison and Emma Burlison, both of Liberty. Additionally, Rusty is survived by his aunt, Patricia Ryan, of Norwich, brothers-in-law, Dan and Tom Jackson, sister-in-law, Kathy Jackson and several Husted and Ryan cousins including Jim Edwards, Collette Hall and Ardean Young. Rusty will be missed by many co-workers and friends, including his best friend, Ed Capria.
Funeral services for Rusty will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, October 28, 2016 at the Wilson Funeral Home with Deacon David Kirsch officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to call at funeral home on Thursday from 1-3 and 5-7 pm.
