Donald A. Newman


SHERBURNE – Donald A. Newman, 91, of North Main St., passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at the Norwich Rehab and Nursing Center.
He was born August 19, 1925 in Sidney, NY, a son of Mark and Blanche Peck Newman and received his education in local schools. Don proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1944 to 1946 in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. On April 21, 1951, Donald married Jeanette Mody in Sherburne. He had worked for Cossitt Motor Express and Hermann Forwarding as a truck driver, and later was a real estate salesman for Irmin Mody Real Estate in Sherburne. Don enjoyed several hobbies including boating, stock cars, and was an avid reader. He was a loving and devoted husband and father whose family was his greatest joy.
Donald was a communicant of St. Malachy’s Church in Sherburne. He was a member of the VFW Post #2782 in Norwich and the American Legion Post #876 in Sherburne.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Jeanette; two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Frank Bonsignore, Karen Newman and David Drozdeil all of Rochester; brother-in-law and his wife, Irmin and Mary Mody of Sherburne; and a sister-in-law, Lila Marano of CT. He was predeceased by his sisters, Hazel Lyons, Thelma Myers and Betty Newman.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30pm Saturday, October 8, 2016 from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne, followed by interment with military honors in St. Malachy’s Cemetery, Sherburne.
Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Saturday from 11am to 12:30pm prior to the service.
