Helen Dale Green


Helen Dale Green, 69, of Norwich, passed away on Sunday, September 18, 2016 at the Norwich Rehabilitation and Nursing Center following a brief illness.
Born on August 13, 1947, in Deposit, NY, “Dale” was the daughter of Frederick and Gladys Eileen (Yager) Emrich. Upon graduating from high school, Dale attended Ridley Lowell business school and received a technical degree as an administrative assistant. She later began her long career with the Chenango County Historian’s Office as the Historical Research Assistant. In this capacity, she researched the history from all over Chenango County and helped thousands of people with their genealogy search requests. Dale retired in 2010.
Dale volunteered her time as the Secretary for the Chenango County Historical Society. For many years she was also an influential force at the Historical Society during those years until her retirement from the Historian’s Office. Dale also assisted with the County Bicentennial project in 1976 and was instrumental in helping to save the Railroad tower that stands near the Norwich City Hall.
Dale, along with David, enjoyed riding the countryside on their motorcycles. She also was an avid reader, loved to research her family’s genealogy, and was an avid horseback rider.
Dale is survived by son David T. Green and his wife, Sarah, of Mount Upton, and their sons, Hogan and Shaw; daughter Jennifer Green and her husband, Sean O’Bryan, of Sherburne, and their daughters, Abigail and Brianna. She is also survived by her brother Edward and his wife, Carol, of South Carolina.
A memorial service for Dale will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 21, 2016, at the Wilson Funeral Home, with Rev. Ralph Bove, pastor, St. Paul’s Church, officiating. Friends may call at the Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will occur at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 20, 2016 in the East Branch Cemetery in East Branch, NY.
