Winton David Young Jr.


Winton David Young Jr., 55, of Norwich, passed away suddenly on September 8, 2016, at the Valley View Manor Nursing Home.
Winton was born in Cortland on August 29, 1961 the son of Winton and Mary (Hale) Young, Sr. He grew up in Harpursville where he attended the local schools. Following his school he entered the United States Marine Corps serving his country until his honorable discharge. Over the years he worked for the Marietta Corp. in Cortland and Raymond Corp. of Greene as a fork lift operator.
In his leisure time Winton enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, playing cards and putting together 1,000 piece puzzles. He was a family man who was always happy, good natured, kind, thoughtful and was always ready to help others.
On April 18, 1998 in Norwich he married Vashti (Vesti) Ostrom who survives. Besides his wife Vesti of Norwich, Winton is survived by his sons William P. Young and wife Joanna of Binghamton, Robert Young also of Binghamton, his sisters Penny Airwyke and husband Steve of Conklin, Robin Moon and husband Donald of Ithaca and Bonnie Mead of Mississippi. Also surviving are his Aunt Pat & Uncle Dick Matson, Aunt Peggy Velino, Aunt Nancy Barrows, Aunt Doris along with brother- in -laws Mike, Bill and Mark and sister – in- law Kathy. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
A funeral service for Winton will be held on Wednesday, September 14, at 10: 00 am from the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. David Spiegel, Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Norwich will officiate. Interment will follow in the Riverview Cemetery of Oxford.
Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 6-8 pm.
