Kathy Blackman Shuman

Kathy Blackman Shuman, 54, of Braver Meadow. Passed away on September 5, 2016 in Norwich, NY. Kathy was a wonderful woman who will always be cherished by those who loved her. She was an amazing wife, mom, daughter, sister, aunt and a friend to many. No matter what the challenge life put in her path she faced it with grace, determination, a smile and the firm belief it would all work out. She often commented on how blessed her life was, especially since meeting and marrying her soulmate Michael. She was very proud of her three sons.
Kathy was known for her love of nature, gardening and bargain hunting for a new treasure. She loved walking on Cooper’s Beach in Maine collecting sea glass, driftwood and shells; sunsets at the swamp in Beaver Meadow; bird watching and hunting for arrowheads. She preferred wildflowers, bare feet and simple pleasures. At family gatherings she was famous for her deviled eggs, ambrosia and buckeyes.
Kathy was born in Star Lake, NY to The Rev. John Blackman and Dorothy Loyte Blackman on August 3, 1962. She graduated from Edmeston Central School and was a student at Morrisville College. She married Michael Shuman on June 18, 2011. She loved her career as a school secretary at both Norwich High School and Morris Central School. Helping the students was a source of great satisfaction for her.
Kathy is survived by her husband Michael Shuman, sons Jordan Blackman, Chazzman Felker and Mitchell Felker; parents The Rev. John and Dorothy Loyte Blackman; brother David Blackman and wife Ruth; sisters Deborah DeForest, Karen Blackman and partner Sara; grandson Adam Blackman; nieces Christina Staples, Michelle Blackman and Rachel Blackman; nephew Riley DeForest and Vincent Shuman and partner Anna.
At Kathy’s request there are no calling hours or funeral service. The family will gather for a celebration of her life at a future date. They would like to thank Wilmot Cancer Center, Bassett Hospice and Hospice & Palliative Care of Chenango County.
Arrangements are with the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home.
