David B. Phetteplace


David B. Phetteplace, 84, of Norwich, passed away on August 31, 2016. He was born on March 16, 1932 to Allen and Lottie Phetteplace and resided on the Norwich property where he grew up for his entire life, building his own home there and raising his family. In his younger years, David helped work on the family farm and later went on to become a partner in HGH Construction, building and remodeling many homes in the Norwich area. He is survived by his wife of nearly 64 years, Joan E. (Hall) Phetteplace; his children, Belinda (Bindy) and Bob Reid; Brian and Nancy Phetteplace; and Dean and Judy Phetteplace; his grandchildren, Sandy Reid and Brian Plank; Stacey Reid Gilliland; Anson and Alena Phetteplace; Briegen Phetteplace; Alex Phetteplace; and Drew Phetteplace; his great-grandchildren, Noah Gilliland and Kara Gilliland. David was member of United Church of Christ in Norwich, the Norwich Lodge #302 of the Free and Accepted Masons, and the Order of the Eastern Star in Norwich. In his leisure time, David enjoyed playing Pitch, bowling, traveling and spent many years camping. His famous apple pie and potato salad were proudly supplied at holiday and family gatherings. He was a loving, caring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He always had a kind word for everyone he met. His infectious smile and his laugh will live on in our hearts forever. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 3, at Mt. Hope Cemetery, 5697 State Highway 12 in Norwich with Pastor Jen Westervelt officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in David’s memory may be made to Norwich Emergency Squad 31 E.
