Adrian “sonny” D. Barrett


Adrian “Sonny” D. Barrett, 81, of McDonough, NY, passed away on Friday, August 19, 2016, at the Chenango Memorial Hospital, Norwich, NY, after a lengthy illness.
Born in Montpelier, VT on December 8, 1934, Sonny was the son of the late Kenneth and Beulah Ayers Barrett. A longtime resident of the area, he began his farming career at the age of 14 when he took over the family farm. Farming was his passion and he was a member of the FFA, the Milking Short Horn Association and would often deliver canned milk for local farmers to various creameries in the area. He was also involved in Boy Scouts and 4-H. In his spare time, he enjoyed riding snowmobiles and motorcycles. A loving husband, father, and grandfather, he will be dearly missed by his family.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Christine Tessman Barrett; and their four children, Bonnie Hill of Pharsalia, Dorothy (Ron) Smith of Cincinnatus, Rose (Norman) Tracy of Cortland, and Michael Barrett of Norwich. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Barbara (Francis “Chick”) Vaughan of MT; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Lloyd “Bud” Barrett, and a sister, Jean Honour.
A Celebration of Sonny’s Life will be held at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY, on Friday, August 26, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. with Jeanne Angell officiating. Burial will be in Wayside Rest Cemetery, Pharsalia. The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Friday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the start of the service at 11:00 a.m. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Sonny may be directed to Hospice of Chenango County, 21 Hayes Street, Norwich, NY 13815.
