Thelma Retha Santose Tuttle Niles


Thelma Retha Santose Tuttle Niles, 90 of Coventryville passed away on July 27, 2016 at Norwich Rehab and Nursing Center. She was born on January 21, 1926 in Lenox, NY a daughter of the late James and Josephine (LaFave) Santose. She was married to Carlton Hawley Tuttle, who died on November 24, 1972. Later in life she married Charles Niles, who died on February 19, 2004.
She is survived by her children, Kathleen (David) Kilbury, Josephine Nutting, Robert (Loni) Tuttle, Retha Tuttle (David Roux), James (Janice) Tuttle and David (Kay) Tuttle. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by two sisters and six brothers.
She graduated from Vernon Central School. She was a Boy Scout leader and Den Mother. She was a member of the Grange and Coventry Senior Center. She was a founding member of the Coventry Museum and a member of the Coventryville Congregational Church, UCC. She was always very active and enjoyed walking, playing cards and board games, including dominoes (with Coventry Rules). She enjoyed crocheting and tatting. She loved traveling and camping, earning her the nickname “Hot Wheels”.
A Memorial service will be held on Friday, August 5, 2016 at 8:00 PM at the Coventryville Congregational Church with Pastor Joyce Besemer officiating. Burial will be in Sylvan Lawn Cemetery, Greene. Memorial contributions may be made to the Coventryville Congregational Church, UCC, 113 County Road 27, Bainbridge, NY 13733.
Friends may call at the Coventryville Congregational Church on August 5 from 6:00 PM until the time of the service. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main St., Oxford, NY. Friends and family may share their memories and condolences by visiting www.behefuneralhome.com.s
