Mary Catherine Jones

HAMILTON – Mary Catherine Jones, 62, of Hamilton, died peacefully on Sunday July 24, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family. A Hamilton native, Mary was the oldest of seven kids raised by loving parents Alexander “Porky” and Kathleen (Come) Taranto. Mary attended Hamilton Central High School and Mohawk Valley Community College. She married the man she loved, Randy Jones on November 28th, 1977. Following the deaths of her parents, Mary and Randy helped raise the younger Taranto siblings and had 3 great kids of their own, Jaime, Jennifer and Michael. Mary worked at the Bluebird Restaurant beside her Dad, Roger’s Market, and as a tremendously loving childcare giver. The job she was most proud of was that of grandmother, aka Nonnie. Mary was active in St. Mary’s Church, the Optimist Club and was an honorary member of “The Crafty Ladies”. She loved sister’s weekend, family dinners, teasing Randy and porch sitting. She was a great fan of Colgate Hockey in general and Don Vaughan in particular. More than anything, Mary will be remembered for her “stories”. If you heard them once, you heard them a hundred times, but somehow they got better with each telling. They usually ended with a laugh, which in Mary’s case literally sounded like “he he”. She was given a year to live 8 ½ years ago and wishes to thank Dr. Anthony Scalzo and his team for 2 graduations, 2 weddings, 3 grandchildren and countless hugs and laughs with family and friends.
Surviving are her faithful and loving husband of 38 years, Randy; her children, Jaime Elizabeth Jones; Jennifer Kathleen and Mike Latreille; Michael Thomas Jones, all of Hamilton, NY; her grandchildren, Henry William Pond; Theo Alexander and Poppy Mary Latreille; her sisters, Sharon (Mark) Fischer of Clark Mills, NY; Margaret Taranto and Kathleen Izard of Hamilton; Catherine (Carl) Gronlund of Jay, NY; Sandra (Jeff) Chiara of Conesus, NY; brothers, Alex “Ally” (Rose) Taranto of Waterville and Mark (Kim) Taranto of Hamilton, NY; Aunt Sal and many other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at 10:30 am from St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Wylie St., Hamilton, NY. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hamilton, NY. Family and friends are invited and may call at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 25 Broad St., Hamilton, NY on Tuesday July 26, 2016 from 4 to 7 pm. The Rosary will be recited at 3:45 pm.
