Norman R. Mowers


Norman R. Mowers, 77, of Norwich and a lifelong resident of the Chenango County passed away late Wednesday afternoon, June 1, 2016, at the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Norm was born on October 11, 1938 in Smyrna the son of Charles & Sarah (Coy) Mowers. Throughout his childhood years he lived with his parents in several towns within Chenango County where he attended the local schools. Norm was a hard worker all of his life. Over the years he worked on several dairy farms in Chenango County one of which was the Tiffany Farm. In addition he worked for 25 plus years at the Spuds & Suds Laundry mat where he kept it in tip top shape. He could also be found doing yard work for many area residents be it mowing lawns, general yard work or shoveling snow.
In his leisure time Norm could be found woodworking, which he loved, watching his western movies, taking bus trips to Atlantic City, and enjoyed watching people doing the polka on T.V. and the Lawrence Welk Show.. He enjoyed his little red 2010 red Chevy Cobalt which took him to work, taking a ride with his wife Shirley or doing errands for anyone.
Norm was also a member of the National Guard for over 20 years.
On November 22, 1958 in Oxford he married Shirley Mowers who survives. Besides his wife Shirley of Norwich, Norm is survived by his sister-in-law Betty Ryan along with several nieces and nephews.
Norm was predeceased by his sisters Dorothy and Irena and his brother Earl.
A funeral service for Norm will be held on Thursday at 11:00 am from the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Jeremy Stopford, Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Earlville will officiate. Interment will be in the J.D.Lewis Cemetery of Preston. Friends may call at the R.J,.Fahy Funeral Home on Thursday from 10-11.
