JAMES HALICY
James D. Halicy, 75, of Norwich, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at the Norwich Rehabilitation and Nursing Center after convalescing following a recent surgery.
Born May 12, 1941, in Ellenville, NY, Jim was the son of Kerwick and Mary (O’Mara) Halicy. He was raised in Scipio Center, NY, and graduated in 1959 from Sherwood Central School. Jim earned degrees from both SUNY Geneseo and St. Rose College in Albany. He was called to serve in the Vietnam War as an MP with the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged. Jim eventually became a grants administrator at the DCMO BOCES educational campus in Norwich. After retiring from BOCES, he relocated to where he owned and operated a golfing range. Several years later, in the fall of 2014, Jim returned to Norwich.
Jim was a member of St. Paul’s Church and was a regular participant with the Adoration Society. He also volunteered at the nursing home at Chenango Memorial Hospital. Jim will also be remembered for his great love of animals and for his active participation in the activities of the Norwich Rotary Club.
Jim is survived by two brothers, Kerwick Halicy Jr. and Jerry (Ann) Halicy; a sister, Jeanne (Richard) Lindeman; a sister-in-law, Marie Halicy, several nieces and nephews, and many dear friends, including the Tuttle family. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Patrick Halicy.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Jim will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 23, 2016, at St. Paul’s Church. Burial will follow the service in St. Paul’s Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the Wilson Funeral Home on Monday prior to the Mass from 9: 30 - 10:30 a.m.
