Harvey Crawford


NORWICH – Harvey L. Crawford, 92, of Pleasant Street, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009 at Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Born in Cannonsville on June 20, 1917, Harvey was the son of Floyd R. and Lena M. (Downs) Crawford. He graduated from Deposit High School with the Class of 1936 and worked at Scintilla for several years before joining the Sheffield Chemical Company in Norwich. He retired in 1981.
Harvey enjoyed traveling, playing golf and bowling as well as fishing, hunting and working in his garden. He was a member of St. Bartholomew’s Church.
On May 1, 1943 in Norwich, Harvey married Rose Arria Crawford who survives.  He is also survived by his children and their spouses, James and Anna Crawford of Oxford, John Crawford and Barb English of Cortland and Rosanne and Brian Moore of Oxford; five grandchildren, Jamie, Frank and Jessica Crawford, and Keith and Kenne Moore; his great grandchildren, Mathew, Alyshia, Kyle, Austin, Taylor, Brooke and Ethan and several nieces and nephews.  Harvey was predeceased by three sisters, May Lockwood, Evelyn Clark and Sarah Lewis and a brother Merlyn Crawford.
Funeral services for Harvey will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at St. Bartholomew’s Church. Friends are invited to call at the church on Friday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
Contributions in memory of Harvey may be made to either the St. Bartholomew’s Memorial Fund or to the Funeral Hospitality Fund at St. Bartholomew’s.
