Mary Jane Hittinger


ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Mary Jane Hittinger, 72, of Elizabethtown, formerly of Sunderland, Md., died on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2009 at Masonic Village, Elizabethtown.
Born in Binghamton, she was the daughter of the late Michael T. and Verna Parsons Russell. She was the wife of the late Walter A. Hittinger who died in January 2005.
Mrs. Hittinger retired in 1984 as a staffing specialist with the U.S. Air Force at Andrews Air Force Base.
She attended Sell Chapel at Masonic Village where she was involved with the Choir, Bell Choir, and Rebecca Circle. Before moving to Masonic Village, she was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Sunderland, Md. for 30 years, where she served on the Altar Guild, was a member of Episcopal Church Women and delivered Meals on Wheels. Additionally, Mrs. Hittinger was a member of the Garden Club of Maryland, N.O.W. and the AAFB Officers Club. She enjoyed gardening, reading, knitting, crocheting, sewing, baking and cooking, traveling and most of all, spending time with her grandchildren. Mrs. Hittinger was also an avid Mah Jong player.
She is survived by three children: Russell L., husband of Brenda Hann, Cheltenham, Md.; Rebecca L., wife of Michael Griffin, Madison, AL; Raymond L. Hann of Alexandria, Va.; eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren; and three cousins: Willard Parsons, Lois Underwood and Carene Luman.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday at John S. Sell Memorial Chapel, Masonic Village, Elizabethtown, Pa. at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 1 p.m. until the time of service. A Memorial Service will also be held on Saturday at All Saints Episcopal Church Routes 2&4, Sunderland, MD 20673 at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1 p.m. until the time of service. There will be no viewing either day.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Tree of Life at Masonic Village.
