Clara E. Hitchcock


Clara E. Hitchcock, 83, of Norwich, passed away Thursday, April 7, 2016, at the Norwich Rehabilitation & Nursing Center.
Clara was born on July 4, 1932 in Woodmont, CN the daughter of Frederick and Gladys (Becroft) Schneider. She attended the Milford High School and on April 28, 1951 in Woodmont she married Frank L. Hitchcock who passed away September 18, 2001. In 1969 she and her husband moved to Beaver Meadow where they made their home for many years.
Clara’s family, especially her grandchildren were her life and she enjoyed the times spent together. She was a bubbly and cheerful person. Due to the fact she was born on July 4th she was referred to as the “firecracker baby”. She enjoyed the holiday’s and would decorate the house for each one. At Christmas time she and her family would make Christmas wreath’s which they sold around the area. Clara also enjoyed her gardening, tending to her flowers and could often be found reading a good book.
Clara is survived by her children; Donna Ogden and husband Eugene of Beaver Meadow, Lela Schlafer and husband Thomas of Weedsport, Peter Hitchcock and wife Therese of Beaver Meadow and Pamela Hawthorne of Hannibal. She is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, 2 sisters, 1 brother and several nieces and nephews.
Clara was predeceased by her husband Frank Sr., and her sons Scott and Frank Jr., as well as her granddaughter Billie Jo.
A memorial service for Clara will be held on Saturday, April 16, at 4 p.m. from the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home on Saturday from 2-4 p.m.
