Jon Scheer

ONEONTA – Jon Michael Scheer, age 28, entered the Heavenly City on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2006 in Colorado Springs, Co., as a result of a pulmonary embolus. Jon was born on April 30, 1978 in Oneonta, to Walter Drew and Rosemarie (Lundberg) Francisco.
When he was 6 months of age, he was placed in the Scheer home as a foster child. At age 3, he was adopted, with great joy, into the Scheer family and became the brother of Jeffrey, Barbara, Eric and Todd.
Jon attended Christian and public schools in Oneonta. He served in the US Army after scoring a near perfect score in the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery).
Jon, a Christian, was gifted with a pleasing, outgoing personality. He was a kind and gentle person deeply loved by his family. He never lacked for friends. Close bonds were established with many of his friends, some of whom have said that Jon was closer than a brother to them. Jon had the ability to “make things work” without even reading the directions and was sometimes called upon by his parents for assistance.
Loving family who remain on earth awaiting the time when they will be reunited with Jon include his parents, Albert and Marlene Scheer of Oneonta, three brothers: Jeffrey and Michele Scheer and their son Austin of Oneonta, Eric and Mary Scheer and their sons, Eric and Brandon of Oneonta, Todd Scheer of Texas and one sister, Barbara and Robert Bordner and their children, Albert, Angeline, Brian, Bianca and Danny of Maryland. Also surviving in his birth family are mother, Rosemarie (John) Stone of Oneonta, Kari Corcoran of Cohoes, John Evans of Chicago, Joann Evans of Massachusetts and Christina Stone and family of Oneonta.
A celebration of Jon’s life will be held at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta at 2 p.m. on Saturday with Pastor Don Yarborough officiating.
Arrangements are being handled by Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta.
