Perle D. Beckwith


Perle D. Beckwith, 82, of Norwich, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 29, 2016, at his home.
Perle was born in Oxford on November 25, 1933 the son of LeRoy and Lila (Wood) Beckwith. He was educated in the Oxford schools from which he graduated. He served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in June of 1961. On June 29, 1957 he married Alice Bates who passed away September 29, 2009. Perle has made his home in Norwich for many years and has been employed by the Norwich Shoe Co., the Rotary Gas Station and Uncle Bill’s Auction House. His last employment was with the New Berlin School where he worked on grounds maintenance, a school bus driver and mechanic.
In his spare time Perle enjoyed spending time with his family, square dancing with his wife, camping “up north” in the woods, hunting and fishing.
Perle is survived by his children; Bradley Beckwith and wife Donna of Groton, CT, Leslie Beckwith and wife Loretta of Norwich and Vicky Mullenax of Sherburne. Also surviving are his grandchildren James Corey IV, Matthew Mullenax, Michael and Kaylee Beckwith and son-in-law Gadiel Serrano of Clinton, Mass. Many nieces, nephews, and his extended family of kids and friends who spent many good times at his home also survive.
Besides his wife Alice, he was predeceased by his daughter Peggy Serrano and his siblings William Beckwith, Lewis Beckwith, Lillian Hackett, Minnie Mowers, Archie Beckwith, Merle Beckwith, John Beckwith, Ernest Kinsley, Jesse Kinsley and step-brother Warren Beckwith.
A funeral service for Perle will be held on Saturday, March 5, at 1 p.m. from the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Jeremy Stopford, Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Earlville will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in the North Norwich Cemetery.
Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home on Saturday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.
