Alice Shattuck


NORWICH – Alice C. Shattuck, 91, of Plymouth Street, passed away peacefully on Friday, Sept. 18, 2009 at Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Born in Smyrna on July 6, 1918, Alice was the daughter of Herbert and Nancy Cleveland. She was a graduate of Smyrna High School and worked for short periods for the Colonia Theater  and the Blue Bird Restaurant before joining the workforce at Norwich-Eaton Pharmaceuticals. Alice retired from Procter & Gamble after twenty-five years in 1983.
Alice was very proud to be a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army as a PFC X-ray technician at Camp Atterbury in Indiana.  Her name in engraved on the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C.  Alice volunteered at the American Legion in Norwich for forty-two years.
On Nov. 26, 1941, in Norwich, Alice married Willard Shattuck, who died on Jan. 23, 1993. She is survived by her two sons, Donald F. Shattuck of Norwich and David F. Shattuck of South New Berlin; a grandson, David C. Shattuck of Preston and two great granddaughters, Emily and Haley Shattuck, both of Preston.
Private military graveside services for Alice will be held in Mt. Hope Cemetery.  There will be no calling hours.
Contributions in memory of Alice may be made to the SPCA.
